What to expect with a gas cooker install
When performing a gas cooker install there are a number of factors taken into account and tested.
Before the cooker installation can be started, room dimensions will need to be checked in order to find out the correct ventilation requirements.
Cookers are considered flue-less appliances meaning the products of combustion go into the room. As such most cookers need to be in a room whereby they have a door or a window is able window to be open to the outside of the room. For some smaller kitchens a ventilation hatch will be required to the outside of the property.
Checks that need to be carried out upon doing a gas cooker install
In order to install a gas cooker, the clearances above and around the cooker need to be checked. Cooker hoods heights, worktops heights and plug sockets distances will all need to be checked.
Once these have been checked, the Gas Safe Registered engineer can start the cooker install process.
Most cookers are installed with a flexible cooker hose connected to an instantaneous fitting, known as a bayonet fitting. As the cooker can be moved, it must be secured to the wall or floor so it cannot topple over.
Normally a cooker chain is used to secure the gas cooker to the wall. When when moving the cooker into position it must be made level and stable by adjusting the feet on the bottom. In addition, the door seals must be checked to make sure that no gas can escape.
The gas engineer must check the gas rate of the appliance and perform a flue gas analysis. This will allow the gas engineer to know it is burning the correct amount of gas and that proper combustion is occurring.
How long does a gas cooker install take?
It should take less than 1-hour to install a cooker and test correctly.
