How Often Should You Service Your Boiler?
Boilers should be serviced once per year. This ensures your boiler is kept within warranty. Mainly however it ensures the heating system is working at its complete optimum. This being a safe and efficient boiler.
Ideally, you should have your boiler serviced in the summer. The main reason for this is that your boiler isn’t required as much during this time of the year. Therefore if there are any issues that come to light during your boiler service, they can be resolved in the summer months. During the winter, you will be most reliant on your boiler and if there is anything that needs sorting out, it will mean no heating and no hot water. Not a good mix for the winter months.
Checking Your Engineer’s Credentials
Prior to having any work carried out on your property, you will need to ensure you are in good hands. You can do this by thoroughly checking the engineer or company you are dealing with is Gas Safe Registered. For an engineer to be Gas Safe Registered, the engineer would have need to complete extensive training courses and passed with very high exam results. You can check your engineer is registered by visiting the Gas Safe website and entering the engineer’s number. If the engineer is not willing to provide you with their registered Gas Safe number, then let the alarm bells ring and walk away. Providing everything checks out with Gas Safe, then the next step is to look up whether your engineer has any legitimate reviews or testimonials. See if the engineer has either a TrustPilot or Google Business page.
What To Expect With Your Boiler Service
At Super Trade Services, when carrying out a boiler service in Medway, we ensure the following is completed. All to a very high standard.
First of all, we will carry out a visual inspection of your boiler. This ensures that the boiler still meets the current standards and requirements. During this part of the boiler service we will look for any leaks or signs of corrosion. In addition, a visual inspection of the flame in the boiler will be carried out.
Your engineer will remove the boiler casing. This is to check all of the components are working as they should be and then the engineer will give the inside of the boiler a thorough clean. During this time checks will also be carried out on the burner, main injector, heat exchanger and spark probe.
A gas pressure check will then be conducted, which ensures the boiler is working at the correct pressure.
Second to last, the engineer will complete a flue check ensuring the flue terminals are free of obstruction. The engineer will also check the flue is safely fitted.
Finally, the engineer will fire the boiler up as this will identify any working faults.
Throughout the boiler service, the engineer will communicate with the customer at all stages. Any concerns during the boiler service will be thoroughly explained to the customer. No further work will be carried out unless the customer gives the go ahead, this ensures customers are not met with any nasty surprises.
How Long Does a Boiler Service Take?
An engineer should take around half hour to complete a boiler service. However the time may vary slightly depending on the make and model of the boiler. Some boilers have more components than others for example.
Upon completion of your boiler service, the engineer will provide you with a service report. This will give a full breakdown of the work that has been carried out, outlining all of the safety checks.
Should your boiler present any issues during the service, the engineer will fully explain this to you. As a customer, you should not be afraid to ask any questions. Make sure the engineer only leaves the property, once you are fully happy with the service provided.
