How to save money on your water bill

Save money on your water bill with our top tips!

No, we’re not contracted by Southern Water or any other water provider. We simply have worked as plumbers for many years and put into action ourselves what we learn through being in the trade. It’s not rocket science stuff but a few tips we have tried and tested will go a long way to help you save money on your water bill.

Top Tips!

  1. You’ve probably heard this many a time, but simply put ‘Don’t Waste Water Running The Tap When Brushing Your Teeth’. Just by turning off the tap, you can save up to 200 gallons of water. Now think about how much 200 gallons of water is costing you!
  2. We’ve seen a trend in the amount of customers switching from bath installations to show installs instead. The reason for this is because a shower saves up to half the amount of water in comparison to a bath. Some 80 litres or so of water is used when taking a bath! Of course, make sure you enjoy a soak now and then. But if you want to save money on your water bill, switch to having a shower on more occasions instead. It’s also super quick to jump in the shower than wait for a bath to fill. Surely your time is more valuable than hanging around waiting for a bath to fill?
  3. Water butt’s are your friend! If you love gardening then pay nothing and simply wait for it to rain. The plants will absolutely love having a splash in some rain water and your pocket will too!
  4. Did you know that garden sprinklers will cost you around £70 more per month. Why spend that much money on watering your garden? Trust us the water butt together with a watering can will be both yours and your plants friend.
  5. For those avid gardeners, try to make sure you water your plants and flowers in the evening. If you do it in the day time, then the water will evaporate and your garden won’t benefit.
  6. On a hot day, don’t run the cold tap waiting for the temperature of the water to cool down. Instead fill a jug with water and pop it in the fridge. It’s super convenient and the water will be lovely and cold to drink. Add some lemon or limes to have a tasty infused drink.

To summarise…

  • When brushing teeth, turn off the tap
  • Shower instead of bathing
  • Fill a jug of water and keep it in the fridge
  • Use a water butt
  • Don’t use garden sprinklers
  • Water plants in the evenings
