New Boiler Installation | What To Expect

Why a new boiler installation might be required?

A new boiler installation might be required for a number of reasons. Perhaps your current boiler is no longer working correctly or at all. If your boiler is no longer heating your property, and if a boiler repair has not sorted the issue, it could be time to replace.

Perhaps your current boiler is a safety concern. If your current boiler has a leak then there could be a threat of carbon monoxide poisoning. This is a very serious and dangerous issue, as it can kill a person.

How to choose the right boiler

Choosing the right boiler can be a tricky thing to do. You obviously want to get it right. This means getting the most suitable boiler for your property at the best price.

When deciding on which boiler is right for you, first note how much water is used in the property. Are multiple people living in the property and requiring hot baths or showers simultaneously? If this the case you may need a powerful combi boiler. This is so hot water can be obtained instantly for heating radiators and for bathing.

Are you looking for an energy efficient boiler? In which case you may wish to research the best energy efficient boilers on the market. Be sure to read manufacturer reviews. Which is a good place to go for impartial advice.

If you use a regular boiler engineer whom you trust, it might be a good idea to ask for his or her opinion. Many gas engineers will also be able to get a good deal on a boiler, usually meaning a better price for the customer. This is because gas engineers can get trade prices.

What happens during a new boiler installation?

A boiler installation is quite an extensive job and it could take an engineer between 1-3 days to complete the job.

The length of time it can take will depend on the size of the property and how many pipes there.

A boiler installation will involve the gas engineer connecting to pumps and pipes. This will be focused around your water outlets, water mains supply and radiators.

If you have a water tank and are upgrading now to a combi boiler, then the water tank might need removing. This is great as it frees up space, meaning more storage room.

The engineer will connect your boiler to heating controls, so that you can control the temperature with a thermostat.

Registering your new boiler

Once the gas engineer has installed your new boiler, he or she will then need to register the boiler with Gas Safe. Gas Safe is the official registration body who regulates all gas engineers and gas companies in the UK.

Each gas engineer working on gas either domestically or commercially will need to be registered with the Gas Safe Register. The engineer will have their own Gas Safe number which they will need to quote when registering any gas related works.

Registering a new boiler installation should be completed by the boiler installer within 30 days. This is a legal requirement.
